What is Greenguard?

Greenguard (Greenguard Environmental Institute, or GEI) is a non-profit, industry-independent certifying body and an ANSI Authorized Standards Developer who serves as a public resource for choosing healthier products and materials for indoor environments. The Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certification Program provides performance-based, field-validated standards used to define products, finishes and materials with low threshold of chemical and particle emissions for indoor use.

Greenguard's mission is to promote global sustainability, environmental health, and safety. Products are required to undergo independent, scientific testing annually for more than 10,000 individual volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as well as ongoing monitoring of their chemical emissions and toxicity level. Only products that meet UL Environment's stringent emissions standards based on established criteria from key public health agencies qualify for certification.

Broadly recognized and accepted by sustainable building programs and building codes worldwide, Greenguard Certification of products is represented by the Greenguard Certification logo.
